The secrets you hide

This week, we return to Catherine’s Corner’s Book Club.

I’ve just finished The secrets you hide by Kate Helm, and wow. This was some read.

I’d love to tell you what is about but there are a lot of twists and turns! So much so I was like “wait, what?” more than once when reading it.

The book starts in the 90s and we have quite the dramatic entry. Then the book gives us a new character and we’re much closer to the present day. I’m instantly like “why can’t you tell me what happened in the 90s?”. Well, let me tell you by the end you’ll love the way the story from the 90s is told as it keeps you guessing.

The book follows a court artist who tries to capture the innocence or guilt of the person she is drawing in her work. It appears like the stress of her job, and secrets are sending her slightly crazy.

The book actually benefits from a small character list – some of whom are more real than others – but are all well-formed.

I’m pretty short of words that do this book justice, so I’m just going to say if you like a thriller of a read this is one to add to your reading list.

The vanishing season by Joanna Schaffhausen has some big shoes to fill as I pick that one off the shelf next.
