Don’t worry mum and dad, this post won’t be me just effing and blinding!
No, today I’m focusing on another victim of the pandemic.
My pin.
I can’t remember the last time I needed to use it. Most shopping is done online so I don’t need it. The boosted contactless limit also sees most transactions completed without the need for a pin.
I’m also probably a little unusual in having multiple cards. Obviously got the Amex and then another credit card for places that don’t take Amex. This also means you need a debit card for when you want to withdraw cash.
This, because I’m security-aware, means I have three different pins. And while normal times sees them used every once in a while, I don’t think I’ve used it since lockdown began. And more importantly, I don’t know when I might use it again next.
Right now, I’m confident on one pin. I probably could get the others if I tried hard enough but as more time not using the muscle memory of popping a pin in, I might end up having to ask shops to start accepting PayPal in person.
